This system actually benefits the non malays. They live in a meritocracy, so those who are competent can always get a well connected malay partner who knows nothing about the business. The competent malays have no connections, and are seen as a threat to well connected malays. So they have no chance to get government contracts, and no chance to get private sector contracts either, because the non malays will not do business with them.

A spot-on article. It is religion that is holding the malays back at the same time it is fear of being unislamic. Malays must educate themselves and stop depending on their ulamaks and madarasisor tafzirs for education. They must become critical thinkers and so be able to think for themselves.
