An appeal to Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad to act.
According to Our World in Data, excess deaths in Malaysia continued at high rates up to latest data available. Excess deaths is a measure of the increase of the number of deaths during a time period compared to an expected value or statistical trend over the last five years in a rolling average.
The excess death rate in December 2022 was 19 percent when the delta strain of Covid-19 emerged. Instead of declining from 2023 onwards, when the mortality from the Covid-19 pandemic was declining worldwide, excess deaths continued at unusually high rates until the end of December 2023. No figures are available from January 1, 2024 onwards, but the patterns followed by Malaysia are similar to the pattern line of Thailand, where figures until May 2024 are available.
Excess deaths in Malaysia is an issue that the minister for health Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad must urgently investigate. Excess deaths are the most serious threat to public health Malaysians have ever face, but this is being ignored by the government.
Malaysians are unexpectedly dying at unacceptable rates.
Its now time for the minister to act.
