Comment: Halal meat: Not corrupt but not compliant with SOPs
This looks like JAKIM's and the MACC's prime role is to protect the image of the government
Comment:
Its amazing the MACC within 24 hours can determine that there is no case of corruption within the Halal Division of JAKIM. I am told the deputy director general of JAKIM didn’t even bother to turn up for an interview with the MACC.
The director general of JAKIM Hakimah Mohd Yusof seems more concerned about JAKIM’s image rather than the fact that non-halal and haram meat is coming into Malaysia labelled as Halal. Hakimah has even called those who came forward and alerted consumers of this as naughty and ill-intentioned.
It looks like the Thomas Foods International halal scandal can't be pursued much more, unless some new evidence arises. The Australian Department of Agriculture, Water, and Environment has covered up in collusion with JAKIM.
Although corruption hasn't been identified by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), by their and JAKIM admissions, Malaysians are being subjected to non-halal and even haram meat from Australia. Muslim consumers will have to be very aware of what meat they consume in future, if they want to maintain personal halal integrity.

PUTRAJAYA: A preliminary investigation by the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) found that the issue of animal slaughterhouses in Australia whose halal status is doubtful has nothing to do with corruption but rather non -compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs). MACC sources said, after receiving complaints linked to the integrity of Halal Hub Division officers of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) in the issue of halal protocol violations, the MACC had taken the statements of three individuals. They are the President of Pertubuhan Kemasyarakatan Rakyat (Pekemas), Faizan Mohd. Noor and two officers of the Jakim Halal Secretariat. However, said a source, the MACC's initial investigation found that the issues raised did not contain elements of corruption, malpractice and abuse of power. “On the other hand, the issue raised is more to the issue of non -compliance of the slaughterhouse with the SOP set by Jakim based on halal requirements. "So, so far we do not see any offense under the MACC Act," he said. Commenting further, the source said, the information obtained by the President of Pekemas was from several people who had worked at slaughterhouses in Australia. "It is understood that the MACC will propose that a consultation inspection file be opened to look into the issue," he explained. Last Thursday, the Senior Director of the MACC Investigation Division, Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hashim confirmed receiving the report made by the Packers and then reviewed and reviewed the relevant information received. He said this included calling on those who submitted the report to provide further information, especially on issues under the MACC's functions. Faizan had previously lodged a MACC report on the issue because it was believed that there was a violation of the integrity of some Jakim officers as if they were just turning a blind eye and allowing all misconduct to occur without proper monitoring. Meanwhile, he said, the inspection and monitoring actions are under the responsibility of officers, including a top management of the department. According to Faizan, the MACC will present a report on the issue in the commission meeting, then appoint an investigating officer based on the commission's investigation SOP. Faizan was one of those who revealed evidence through information from slaughterhouse workers in Australia, including video recordings of non-compliance that took place over the years.- UTUSAN
