Its now a crime to criticize national leaders?
The Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) : Is this a REFORMASI or a MADANI thing?
Just posted on Hussien Abdul Hamid’s blog this morning. Apparently from very reliable sources. No news in the media on this. Could this be true? My investigations indicate this is not correct.
The Malaysian government has passed an amendment to the Sedition Act.
The Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) 2015 has been approved by the Dewan Rakyat The police will arrest anyone who spreads defamation against national leaders, including those who alter the image of national leaders to create and instill hatred among the people on social media such as Whatsapp, FB, Tweeter, Blog, etc.
Minimum POTA detention is for 2 years. Maximum 20 years.
It cannot be challenged in all Courts.
The Detention Center is on a 1000-acre island in the North of Sabah.
Do not share dubious posts or circulate posts on sensitive issues. Even if you cut and paste, you can be charged for distribution and dissemination. it is an offense now to "propagate" any material that is deemed to be of "seditious tendency"
.Also, note that intent is not necessary for sedition.
That means you can't say you didn't intend to spread or send the material to cause disharmony or cause anyone's feelings to be hurt*
QUESTION: Have any previous governments or prime ministers enacted such laws to curtail social media? Is this what we expected from a REFORMASI and/or a MADANI government?

Our "national leaders" are all thin-skinned fragile flowers fall apart the moment they encountered the least unfavourable words.
