A sincere request for assistance

Michelle Coote is a long time friend who is now a full time provider of a refuge for stay dogs and cats. If you live in Thailand you will know how much of a problem stray soi dogs are roaming freely on the streets.

I saw her plea on Facebook yesterday and felt I should put it here on my Substack.

I need help! Running my rescued animals sanctuary has become too much for me, both financially and physically. The worst of it is - the animals are not getting the care they need as vet visits are being put off as I try to fix some medical problems myself. Numbers keep growing because I can't find homes for kittens dumped on my doorstep.

For food, vet bills, medication, vaccines, sterilizations, supplements, accommodation, utilities and maintenance, sanctuary costs are around 400,000 baht per year ($US 11,000, $A 16,000). This is mostly funded from my pension, which is in real danger of running out.

Ideally, I need another 120,000 baht per year to pay a full-time helper because at the age of 61, I cannot keep up with the work load of feeding, going to the clinic, medicating, cleaning, laundering, shopping and property maintenance for 73 cats, six dogs and one chicken. Volunteers from other countries have proved to be more work than they're worth and local Thai people need to be paid for their time.

My sanctuary cats and dogs live a good life compared to what they once had on the streets. They are safe, sheltered, comfortable, well fed and cared for. They are the lucky ones who won the lottery jackpot.

But I need to win the lottery to keep doing what I'm doing. And we all know the odds of that.

So I'm asking for donations to help me cover the costs of running my rescue animal sanctuary and so that I can give the animals all the care they need.
