NED narrative has turned against Anwar
Zahid DNAA appears to have been the trigger point
The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which is closely aligned with ‘thinking’ at the US State Department has clearly and decisively changed its narratives against the Anwar Ibrahim administration. This abrupt change appears to have been triggered by the “discharge not amounting to an acquittal” of Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the deputy prime minister and president of UMNO.
Countering the international perception, Anwar did an interview with Singapore’s CNA, to rebut criticisms.
At the Milken Institute over the weekend, Anwar said Malaysia must be fiercely independent as a sovereign nation and not be forced to choose sides in the escalation of rivalry between the United States and China. Anwar’s statement that Malaysian relations with the US remained strong didn’t sound as convincing as previously.
Domestically, criticism of Anwar through the local media is being suppressed through clandestine methods under the Media and Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Here is an article from Benar News very critical of Anwar.
Here is another article after the DNAA of Zahid by the Voice of America.
Anwar is no longer the ‘poster boy’ of the US State Department.
This could be a potential long-term headache for Anwar.

The NED has come to recognise that under Anwar, Malaysia cannot be brute to the US side against China. Malaysia wants to take neither side, but to remain friends of both. That is not what the US or NED wants.
Anwar wants to be the man who bridge the divide between the two world power. He has proven that he is a reformist. Now he wants to reform the world.
