Royal comments relating to politics potentially undermine the institution itself
The monarchy must be and seen to be above both the law and politics
A crisis within Bersatu has occurred after palace comments
Since Anwar Ibrahim became prime minister at the end of November 2022, the monarchy has been given much more latitude beyond previous bounds. Any public criticism of the monarchy is now forbidden under ‘very sketchy’ limits upon any discussion about race, religion and royalty. This is known colloquially as the 3Rs. The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) now have a special taskforce Classified Investigation Unit to investigate political issues.
This has effectively suppressed any speech about the conduct, behaviour, decisions made, and business dealings of any member of the ruling families.
However, just a couple of days ago a member of the monarchy has unprecedently made comments about a case involving Bersatu leader Muhyiddin Yassin, while campaigning at the Nenggiri byelection last week.
According to news reports there have been 29 police reports made again Muhyiddin. Muhyiddin has already been called up for a police interview for the investigation.
Usually, when a person has been called up on issues of insulting royalty (sedition), the ruling families would be silent and let the police do their job. Any comments regarding the matter would be made to the police in a ‘closed door’ basis. In Thailand, where there are extremely strong Section 112 Lese Majeste laws, the King would never break his silence and allow the police, prosecutors, and courts to do their jobs.
This is how the monarchy works. The monarchy must be and seen to be above both the law and politics. The monarchy must be impartial.
In a statement reported in The Star Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim wants the police to take firm action against Muhyiddin for allegedly touching on the 3Rs issues during the Menggiri byelection.
Such as statement, when the police are already working on the Muhyiddin case is unprecedented. Such a statement can be read as being politically partisan, and becoming involved in the political process, which is in a tense situation at the moment. The other concern is the statement could prejudice the investigation against Muhyiddin. It could also prejudice any legal proceedings as the prosecution could bring the Tengku’s statement into the court as evidence against Muhyiddin, as a defendant. The statement pre-judges any findings.
The fear is that such statements coming from the monarchy could potentially charge the environment and cause political repercussions. This is the direct opposite to what the 3Rs intended, and potentially dangerous towards the peace.
If the latest report in Malaysiakini is to be believed the statement is already bringing (or amplifying) a major political division within Bersatu.
Crisis in Bersatu after Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim’s statement
If the monarchy becomes partisan in politics, it could lead to unimagined consequences. It could further polarise a politically divided country.Â
This will unfortunately potentially undermine the integrity of the Monarchy, which must be avoided at all costs.

Times have changed lah. Even in Britain the collapsing soon to be little Turd World country that we ape, the present monarch Jug-ears Charlie the Turd shoots his mouth off when he should not, and openly or covertly interferes with the gomen all the time.
With Bolehland, Ketuananwar the MacMullah of MacDani is effectively beholden to the power than plonked him on his seat, it is clear then Ketuananwar never had "the numbers" he always claims after any election.
So one can say Ketuananwar is grabbed by his cowardly one goolie, he has to watch his scaly back and not take his fantasy he's an imperial dictator too far.
The Brit state apparatus is actually in the hands of Jug-ears, all the Brit monkeys are subjected to his will, whims, and fancy. All pledge allegiance to the throne. Anything "Royal" is owned by him, and that means the armed forces which have hinted in the past they can seize power if they don't like the gomen of the day. Duncan Campbell, the lover of that gorgeous Julie Christie (yes, the one in the famous sex scene in a movie) have written extensively about this.
What do you expect?
