Zuckerberg claims Biden-Harris administration pressured Meta to censor COVID-19 content

This is still happening outside the US where Meta is cooperating with governments around the world

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims the Biden/Harris administration had pressured Facebook and Instagram to censor Covid-19 content and takedown accounts during the pandemic, to assist White House and government administration narratives. This collaborates the “Twitter Files” revelations made last year, just after Elon Musk purchased Twitter, now called X.

In a letter dated August 26, Zuckerberg told the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee that he (Zuckerberg) personally regretted not speaking out about White House pressure much earlier. In addition, during the closing part of the 2020 presidential campaign Facebook censored any mention of the Hunter Biden laptop, on the premise that it was a Russian hoax and disinformation, which has bee found to be totally incorrect. The laptop did exist. Thus Meta was censoring information, which could have changed the outcome of the US presidential election.

Biden-Harris administration pressure on Meta to censor any information that was contrary to White House interests has been continuous from 2021 to the present.

The White House has issued a statement saying "Our position has been clear and consistent: we believe tech companies and other private actors should take into account the effects their actions have on the American people, while making independent choices about the information they present."

This censorship by Meta is not just occurring in the United States. Its occurring around the world in countries like Australia, Canada, The United Kingdom, and Malaysia. In Malaysia, where Meta has a content moderating office in Bayan Lepas, Penang. The content moderators employed mostly come from the lead political party in the coalition, Parti Rakyat Malaysia. Meta executives have frequent meetings with the Malaysian Communications and Multi-Medi Commission (MCMC), which regulates social media. Upon MCMC recommendations, Meta controls the amplification of posts and even the closing and/or locking out of users from their own accounts.

The implications on factchecking organizations

The above revelation puts Meta’s (and other) fact checking organizations integrity in grave doubt. Meta claims the employ more than 90 independent factchecking organizations in over 60 languages around the world to fact check and take down posts, if they believe a post is either false or carries disinformation. These factcheckers essentially carry out Meta’s censorship operations.

Thus, according to Zuckerberg’s admissions to the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee, organizations like AFP-Hub, The Australian Associated Press, and RMIT FactLab in Australia, AFP Hub in Canada, AFP Hub in Malaysia, AAP and AFP Hub in New Zealand, Reuters Fact Check in Singapore, and USA Today, The Dispatch, TelevisaUnivision, Reuters Fact Check, PoliFact, Lead Stories, Factcheck.org, and AFP Hub in the United States now have a major credibility gap.

The lack of integrity of factcheckers has long been suspected. Zuckerberg’s revelations only confirm what many have thought. These organizations haven’t been checking facts, they have been checking of posts conform to official government narratives.

The major issue now is how will social media act in the up-coming US presidential election?

Maybe its time that META be split-up into smaller organizations. Facebook, Instagram, and WhatApp could be separate corporations independent of each other.
