The formation of Malaysia was a British initiative, to put the regions Chinese and indigenous peoples under Malay hegemony. Malay hegemony was practised to the maximum with Malay elites grabbing almost everything, leaving crumbs for the Chinese and Indians. The states of S and S were thoroughly exploited using local elites who plundered the states with the connivance of KL. Over 60 years, people have got wiser and now everyone wants out. The legal fine print is now big print and the obvious is glaring. S and S want out. Even the state of Johor has threatened to quit, stating that the original conditions for the formation of The Federation of Malaya has not been adhered to. The outlook for Malaysia is so bleak, its application to join BRICS has not been approved. Everyone knows what is coming. Without S and S, Malaya will be creaking at the joints. If the Chinese decide not to support the Malay hegemony and decide that they want more of the share of the wealth of the country, things can get bad. Malay elites have got so addicted to their Ketuanan status that anything less is unacceptable. But this is not 1969. Malay elites will not get their way this time around.
