When Malay parents choose to send their children to Chinese or Tamil schools it's an embarrassment to the racial warlords. But the parents must be doing this for a reason, voting with their feet, so to speak. The simple-minded solution is to close the vernacular schools, which the courts have put a hold on. This issue will not go away though and there seems little enthusiasm anywhere for making sensible changes. Sensible change is hard to come by in Malaysia because fixing racial and religious issues would remove them from the political playbook. This cannot be allowed to happen. It's much better not to solve anything and just keep arguing about it so race and religion crowd can hold on to power.

Lee Kuan Yew described them as hotbeds of Chinese chauvinism and communism decades ago. He changed his tune once he had destroyed that aspect of the objective of Chinese groups seeking to turn Malaysia (and Singapore) into vassal states of mainland China and its ideology. He compelled them to integrate with the other racial groups, the Malays, the Indians and Eurasians.

Fast forward a few decades and the dormant Chauvinist emerged from behind the veneer of respectability Lee hid under and returned to being Chinese all over again. The monster has resurfaced all over south east Asia and is threatening Australia. Robert Menzies warned Australians about this menace referring to them as the Yellow Peril.
