Unlike the victory of a revolution or a coup d'tat where the constitution, laws, contracts and so forth made under the old regime and be ripped up and annulled, however winning an election still requires the new government to honor all contracts, agreements and obligations inherited from the previous government, which limits what the new government can do with regards toll concessions which still have 10, 30 or 30 years left.

The first Pakatan Harapan federal government found out that it would have to compensate the toll concessionaires to the tune of billions, if it were to take over the highways and abolish toll as promised during its election campaign..

So if there are say 30 years of a concession left to go, which is six times the five-year term of a government, the Pakatan Harapan government can either compensate the concessionaire to the tune of billions and abolish to the toll, or it can hope to keep getting elected and form the government until the concession expires and not renew it.

So this is the dilemma Anwar's government faces, unless if any fraud or improper procedure is found in the granting of the concession, and it is proven. Then there are grounds to terminate the concession.

This is just my layman's opinion. Perhaps a lawyer such as GR Kumar can provide a professional opinion on this.

Malaysians cant really complain although 'me thinks they complain too much' especially when one considers that they vociferously and unlawfully helped topple a government of the people through lies, deceit and unlawful lynch mob behaviour.

A cursory read of the legislation and the agreements with the concession holders of these tollways will reveal that it is perfectly lawful for the government to renew the concessions on these tollways through mere delegated legislation.
