The power of the Catholic church in the 1960's and 70's was such that they were able to sweep it under the carpet. At the Catholic de La Salle Brothers schools these things were rampant. Parents and srtudents were mortified and unable to speak up about it then. But no one (and rightfully so) could say it was a Catholic practice or that all boys were sexually abused.
