KUALA LUMPUR : Former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is said to have been pardoned by the Pardon Board, yesterday.
Although a source confirmed to Utusan Malaysia about the matter when contacted today, but so far it is still a question mark because there has been no official announcement from the government.
Earlier this morning, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territory), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa briefly informed that an official statement will be issued regarding the matter by the Pardon Board.
He said the meeting was held at the Istana Negara, however he did not inform when the official statement would be issued.
Yesterday, this newspaper reported that the Board of Pardons held a meeting yesterday chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and it is understood that one of the agenda of the meeting was about the release of Najib.
However, Zaliha refused to comment further on the agenda of the meeting as it was a confidential matter.
Najib previously faced a 12-year prison sentence and a RM210 million fine after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence for misappropriating RM42 million in funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.
The former Prime Minister began serving his prison sentence in August 2022.
In addition, he is also being tried for other charges related to the 1MDB scandal.
Local media previously quoted a statement from a senior member of Najib's confidants as saying that there is a 'positive atmosphere' regarding the pardon petition if the application is heard in this month's meeting.
Last month, Najib's main lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, said his team would write to Putrajaya to get an update on Najib's application for a royal pardon, which was filed almost 10 months ago.
However, the Spokesman of the Unity Government who is also the Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil said that the Cabinet Meeting on January 10 did not discuss matters involving the Pardon Board including the case of the former Prime Minister. – MESSENGER

Most straightforward way to get out of jail for Ah Jib's is to go to the power that be and say:
"I beg your pardon"
If that doesn't work fully, it should get his remaining years in prison further halved from six to three.
Bolehlanders always do things by halves so there's definitely hope for Ah Jib yet. He might be out as the old dictator Mamakthir gets in.
What's more, with his Muthumok, Muthuzani, Muthukriz, Muthuwhat and Marina Bay joining him at the slammer, the Kerala Krait can even form a Bollywood pop Qawwali combo band to keep fellow inmates and Toon "Wan Eye Jerk" Dying depressed.
Ah Jib's had better make a run for it.
Probably an article to gauge whether there's enough Bolehlanders who want Ah Jib's sprung from prison. Seems the climate isn't right and Youtoosan backed off.
Ah Jib's should be pardoned, there's no reason why he should be without the entitlement due all our criminal politicians. Even Mamakthir understood the routine, he applied to have his worst friend Anwar pardoned.
Ah Jib's kangaroo trial left plenty to be desired, many many important questions have been left unanswered. The trial ought to be reopened. Until then, Ah Jib has to be freed.
Bolehland should have pardon fests at least a couple of times a year. During the fests all should go round and pardon wan and all. Giving the pardon, forgiving all left right and center are healthy activities all should take part in, Amin.
If you are Christian, you should also make yourself look ridiculous and hypocritical by saying "hate the sin, love the sinner". So go on then, Ah Nib is there for you to love!
